-
Realization of workshops to general population on topic of democracy
Action - Women
from Sveti Nikole for women of Sveti Nikole - May 2003
Goal of the
action
The goal of the
action is building connection among the women from different sectors:
representatives form NGOs, women branches of political parties, women from
workers unions, women form private businesses, individual businesswomen and
undertaking mutual actions to actualize the role of women in public and
political life.
Target group
Target group in this
action were women from NGOs, women form different political parties, women
from workers unions, women from private businesses, and individuals. 55
women participated in the workshops, 200 women form the Municipality were
interviewed, and approximately 50 women participants attended the tribune.
Activities
In the preparatory period were printed 50 white t-shirts
with the logo of the action "Women from Sveti Nikole for the women of Sveti
Nikole".
On 17 of May was
held the first workshop on a topic - Women and politics, which was attended
by 28 women representatives form different sectors listed above. Educator of
the workshop was Radica Lazarova. The workshop discussed about he position
of women in politics, motives that drive women to join politics, the reasons
behind the fact that there is small number of women members of political
parties, and especially in the leading positions, as well as finding ways
how to increase the participation of women in politics. Conclusion from the
workshop was that strengthening the women's sections in the political
parties is essential, in the same time giving support and encouragement to
women in order to achieve increased participation of women in the political
parties.
On 18 of May was held the second workshop on a topic -
Women and economics that was attended by 27 participants, and educator was
Radmila Sandeva. When reviewing the condition of women in the Sveti Nikole
economy we came to conclusion that in worst situation are women working in
the private textile factories, where large number of them do not have social
and health insurance, they are working in unfavorable working conditions for
low wages and longer hours than permitted by the Law. The reasons for this
situation are the overall bad economic situation in the Municipality on one
hand and because most of the women are not aware about their rights as
workers. In this regard education of women about their rights is needed and
organizing them in order to improve their working conditions.
During the project
implementation the active participators performed inquiry among 200 women to
gain wider assessment about the needs of the women in the Municipality.
On 23 May 2003 was
organized exhibition of handicrafts and paintings of women from the
Municipality. 20 women participated in the exhibition with their own arts,
some of them were inspired by the past and the tradition of the Municipality
and others were paintings painted in different techniques, flower arts.
On 23 May 2003 was
held an tribune in the City Hall of Sveti Nikole Municipality starting at
19:00, and the tribune was attended by 50 women visitors from local NGOs,
political parties, workers union and private business.
